New Chapter, Who Dis?

Internet, I know we don't know each other very well yet but Allan and I are amidst some hefty life changes so this is probably a good place for you to jump in. This past month, we got married, went on a honeymoon and moved from Arizona to a cute little rental home in California. Life feels like the opening credits in Shrek 2 where "Accidentally in Love" by the Counting Crows is playing and it is a jolly good time. Thankfully, things are starting to settle down and we're finding our groove, but this month was one we want to remember every bit of—especially the food.

Travel Guide: Kyoto

Greetings from Japan! We promise this is a cooking blog but it just so happens we’re on holiday and thought it’d be fun to bring you along for the ride. After all, our cooking is largely influenced by Japanese culture and cuisine. This is actually our FOURTH trip here in four years. It always ends up trumping other potential travel destinations because there are plenty of allergy-friendly food options for me, we can visit Allan’s grandparents, and quite frankly, it’s just a fun place to visit. The Japanese way of life is different from the American one in so many ways. Everyone is extremely courteous and polite. There is no litter anywhere and the public wash closets are cleaner than the average American home bathroom. There’s an understanding that everyone ought to clean up after themselves so they don’t inconvenience anyone else. It’s incredibly refreshing.

Attempted to make the epic Shroomami bowl from @sweetgreen since there are none in VTA County and we didn’t get our fix after 4 bowls in one week while in the Bay 🥗🍄🤗 .

We’re getting a little chubby but in great spirits 🍜 Hiyashi Chuka is a cold ramen dish featuring a smattering of fun toppings—it’s basically a ramen charcuterie board 🙃 We found shellfish-free imitation crab and used vegan egg 🌱
You gotta risk it for the brisket 🔥🥩 Test the tenderness by balancing a piece on one finger and seeing how much it arches 🌈

Our first time making salmon burgers but it certainly won’t be our last 🍔 We made the patties with cut up salmon, capers, bread crumb and sprinkled with Roto Roast rub (@charcrust), served with a squeeze of lemon 🍋 on a pretzel bun 🥨. SO TAS
Lemon 🍋 , thyme 🌿, salt 🧂and pepper🖤. The only ingredients you need to make an epic roast chicken. We paired ours with roasted shallot and lemon zucchini risotto 🥘. And the best part of roasting a whole chicken is that the leftovers can be used
